Wrinkles Around the Eyes

Someone said, "Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder". But most people would agree that beauty lies in the eyes of the beheld. Eyes make the face beautiful. Most men and women are impressed with beautiful eyes. Except of course if you have unsightly wrinkles around your eyes.

Eyes have the ability to subtly express feelings, thoughts, fears and emotions without even a word being said. You can tell from a person's eyes if he or she is happy, discouraged, angry or head over heels in love with someone. Two people in love can use this eye-language to communicate to each other without even saying a word. The tongue may lie, but eyes, they say, never lie! Eyes are said to be windows to the soul and mirrors of one's heart.

On the other hand, eyes can reveal a person's overall condition. They reveal whether a person is ill or fatigued, whether he is under stress or he lacks sleep.

Are you having nightmares because of the dark circles around your eyes? Are your eyes showing signs of ageing? Are you plagued by crow's feet? Or do you have puffiness under your eyes? Maybe the skin under your eyes is getting all dry and flaky; and to make matters worse your moisturizer is not doing much. Don't worry! If you look at most celebrities sans makeup, you may see that they too have the same problems.

The skin under the eye being many times thinner than that on the face, dilation of the tiny blood vessels under the skin makes it appear darker, resulting in dark circles, necessitating skin care around the eyes. If you are under stress of any kind, or you aren't sleeping for 7 to 8 hours, you know the cause of your problem. Crow's feet (and how you hate that word) are a result of repeated expressions and squinting, making you look, older than you are. Mental tension is first reflected on the face muscles. So relax those face muscles, and you will look better. Puffiness or eye bags are formed due to fluid build-up or toxin build-up under the skin. This is especially the case after waking up in the morning. The reason you have dry skin is that the skin under the eye has a few oil glands. Women who have crossed the age of 40 are more prone to the above problems due to reduced estrogen and lipid levels.

Worrying aggravates the problem. Sitting with your head under a paper bag will not work either. All your skin problems can be treated.

Skin care around the eyes is very important. If normal moisturizers are not working, try an eye firming cream. Eye creams are designed to tone skin, decrease dark circles and increase cell turnover by stimulating collagen. Use the cream at night and the first thing in the morning. Get 7 to 8 hours of sleep daily. Decrease salt intake and keep your head slightly elevated when sleeping in order to avoid puffy eyes. Mineral supplements may help because they help to metabolize vitamins. Especially Omega 3 fatty acids available in sea foods are rich in antioxidants and can repair skin damage caused by free radicals. For crow's feet, an anti-ageing cream can do wonders. For tired eyes, place slices of cucumber on your eyelids. Cucumber is a good astringent. It closes open pores and tones the skin, reducing tiredness and bags around the eyes. You can also substitute tea bags for cucumbers. To treat dry skin under the eyes, a mixture of Aloe Vera gel and sesame oil could help. Aloe is an excellent moisturizer and sesame oil has anti-inflammatory properties.

So pay some attention to skin care around the eyes, and get back that confidence. It may not be long before that someone special looks into your eyes and sees what's in your heart!
